Product Update – KS0285 LandCruiser LC200 Standalone Shelf

We’ve made some improvements to the Standalone Rear Roof Shelf to suit the Toyota LandCruiser LC200.

This new design will be available at no cost to any past purchasers of KS0285 who wish to update their shelf. We recommend watching the above video, to see the new design and how it is installed.

Why We've Redesigned our LS200 Standalone Shelf (KS0285)

Most vehicles we work with utilise a captive nut in the vehicle frame. The LC200 mounts use a unique system, where the handles are clipped into a bracket that is welded to the frame in the roof. These brackets feature a series of welds: multiple load-carrying welds, and a couple of small spot welds that serve to position the bracket on the vehicle. In intensive driving conditions, the risk of the positioning spot welds coming away increases slightly. In the event of this, we are confident that the load-bearing welds on the top of the bracket will continue to perform and carry the required load.

Our philosophy is that everything we make, we make to work in the toughest conditions you'll find on your adventures. So we’ve updated our design to reflect improved performance and longevity. For those who like to do more demanding trips, this solution provides further support for additional peace of mind. These are available at no cost to any past purchasers of the LC200 Standalone Shelf.

We’ve also designed a Large Side Molle Panel is available as an alternative upgrade option, providing the same functionality with additional storage options and benefits. It is available at a discounted upgrade rate to past purchasers, at $180.00 with Free Shipping within Australia (RRP $295.00 + shipping).

International Customers: The Small Molle Panels are available to you at no cost. The upgrade to the Large Side Molle panels is AU$145.00 plus shipping to your location).

FAQ

I don’t want to install the Small Molle Panel, is it required?

The Small Side Molle Panel is not required for the shelf to be functional, and you can continue to use the shelf without it. We recommend the panel if you are planning on tackling more demanding trips in tougher conditions for extended periods of time.

I have decided I don’t want to run the shelf anymore, what are my options?

If you would prefer, we can issue you a refund for the shelf.

To receive a refund, you will need to uninstall your shelf and simply send us the two Handle Brackets. Once received, we’ll process a refund for the full cost of the shelf plus the postage cost to send the brackets to us.

I purchased from a distributor and would like a refund, what do I do next?

Send an email to info@kaon.com.au with your proof of purchase and we’ll log it in our system. In order to receive a refund, you will need to uninstall your shelf and simply send us the two Handle Brackets. Once received, we’ll process a refund for the full cost of the shelf plus the postage cost to send the brackets to us.

I purchased from a distributor and don’t have proof of purchase?

No worries. Please take a photo of your shelf insitu, and include a piece of paper with your name written on it within the photo.

How do I check if my shelf mounts are okay?

There will be discernible sideways movement in the handle attachment point.

If desired, you can check under the headlining, but due to the complexities of this and potential for damage to airbags, we do not recommend it.

Is this a common issue?

No, the LC200 uses a unique grab handle mount, and it’s mounting system is unlike any of the other shelves in our range, and unlike any other vehicle. Of the hundreds of LC200 shelves we have sent to customers, only 2 customers have reported this squeaking to be an issue.

But our philosophy is that everything we make, we make to last. So we’ve decided to update our design to reflect improved performance and longevity.

My shelf feels fine, is there anything else I should do?

Not really. The shelves are still functional with the existing mounting points, and the safety, performance and usability of the vehicle remain uncompromised regardless.

I have the LC200 Light Cargo Barrier or Barrier shelf, am I affected?

No, the Light Cargo Barrier with or without the Barrier Shelf installed transfers most of the load downwards, and so the rear grab handle mounts remain unaffected.

Installation Questions

What are the dimensions for the Small Side Molle Panel, and what clearances are required?

From the floor vertically up, it is 590mm to the base of both the Small and Large panels.

What is required to mount the Small Side Molle Panel?

You will need to drill a hole to access the captive nut in the vehicle frame, we provide a template to do this, so it’s easy to get it right. The best thing to do if you are unsure is to watch the video.

Is it difficult to locate the captive nut where the Side Panels mount?

Not at all. We provide a template to do this, so it’s easy to get it right.

What do I need to drill into the trim?

All you need is a drill, and a 22mm hole saw. Alternatively, you can use a small drill bit to make an opening large enough to pass the 20mm diameter spacer.

What happens if I decide to remove the Side Panel at a later date?

We can supply grommets if required, should you ever decide to remove the panel. Alternatively, inexpensive blanking grommets can be found at most hardware or automotive retailers.

I’d like the Side Molle Panels but am a bit unsure about the install, what are my options?

We understand that drilling into a vehicle can sometimes be a bit daunting. To help, we’ve developed a template to make it really simple, so you can get the placement right. We’ve also created an installation video, so you can follow along. If you’re still unsure, depending on your area we can connect you with an installer who will be able to assist you, at a rate.
